PURPOSE: Why are we building a new sanctuary?
Basically for three reasons: Design, Function and Size.
1. DESIGN. Our new sanctuary is carefully designed to reflect values and features that are architecturally unique to spaces dedicated to the worship of Almighty God. Also, thoughtful attention was given to practical considerations such as comfort, seating, viewing, sound and lighting. For over 80 years our church has renovated and met in facilities designed for various purposes, but never a sanctuary specifically designed for worship. We are looking forward to the many advantages and opportunities for new and creative ways to express our love for God.
2. FUNCTION. Presently, we are meeting in a multi-function room which is utilized for a wide variety of purposes. However, our new sanctuary will be used exclusively as a place for the church to gather and worship God. We believe, this dedicated use will foster an uplifting atmosphere of inspiration and reverence, which is a desired part of the worship experience.
3. SIZE. We are a growing and active congregation. Our services are open to the public and everyone is welcome to come and experience the restoring and healing Presence of God. We desire to be inclusive of as many people as possible, and therefore, we are continually expanding to help meet the growing needs of the people of Malden and the surrounding Boston metro area. As such, a larger sanctuary will increase our capacity to serve more people.
BENEFITS: What is the goal, the end result?
This sanctuary provides a majestic place where people will gather to worship on a weekly basis. It will also serve on special occasions of joyous celebration, like weddings. Additionally, it will provide a place of solitude and comfort in times of loss, such as funerals. It will serve generations to come as a place of growing together while meeting vital community needs.
POSSIBILITY: How can we do this?
Building this new sanctuary is a huge project for us, therefore, we began with a clear sense of dependence upon God. The building is nearing completion thanks to a precise combination of generous donations and the volunteer labor of many professionals. With God’s help, we will Finish to Begin a new chapter in making known God’s love to the people of Boston’s North Shore.
